Between Shades of Gray (Ruta Sepetys)

Hi all!

I don't normally include books I've read for school on this blog, but this book was absolutely incredible and I never would've read it had I not had to, so I wanted to review it!

Between Shades of Gray tells the story of Lina, a teenage artist living in Lithuania with her parents and younger brother. But when Stalin's expansion of the Soviet Union comes knocking, her family is taken from the life they've known and deposited in a work camp in the middle of Siberia. With her father missing and her family at stake, Lina will do anything to save her mother and brother, as well as Andruis, a teenage boy who might help her survive every atrocity she experiences.

While I'm not usually the biggest fan of historical fiction, Between Shades of Gray is beautifully written with a compelling and gut-wrenching storyline. I'd also highly recommend the sequel, Salt to the Sea, which may or may not have a review coming soon!
