Grendel's Guide to Love and War (A.E Kaplan)


I've never read a more entertaining retelling of an old book than this one! This 2017 YA novel has been likened to a retelling of Beowulf, and it does it so well!

It follows Tom Grendel, a teenage boy living with his war-traumatized father in a community of old ladies in Virginia. Everything is normal (or as normal as it can get for Tom) until his peaceful old neighbors move out, clearing the space for

1. A locally famous reporter

2. The worst school bully Tom has ever encountered

3. And the girl Tom wants to spend the rest of his life with.

The unique and funny plot of this book, along with its host of quirky and wonderful side characters make it entertaining and so much fun to read!
