The Alex Crow (Andrew Smith)

I'm just going to say it upfront: The Alex Crow is, hands down, the weirdest book I've ever read. That also makes it one of the best written and most interesting stories out there today.

The Alex Crow is a combination of several different stories. There is the story of Ariel, a refugee who is the sole survivor of an attack on his remote village. He now lives in a town called Sunday, with his foster brother Max (who hates Ariel) and the family's pet, who is a reanimated from the dead and severely depressed crow. Then there is the story of Leonard Fountain, an unstable man with a mission. And finally, there is the story of a failed Arctic voyage from the late 1800s, and the treasures one particular man finds.

This book is fascinating. It has so many twists and turns and interconnected stories, and overall it is a well crafted and bizarre read.

(Warning: This book contains some mature content)
